Opened in 1927 Old Parliament House and now the Museum of Australian Democracy stands as an iconic building in Canberra and throughout the nation.
Shepherd was engaged to supply and install a modern lighting solution to highlight the heritage building.
The project scope included:
- Replacement of existing lighting with new LED fittings, removal and replacement of the existing cabling to incorporate Dali lighting control.
- Upgrade of existing Emergency/Exit lightings throughout the whole building with new monitored fittings and programming.
- Removal of existing control gear and fittings in existing Heritage fittings in Kings Hall, Senate & Reps chambers, Corridor fittings & Library design of new LED fittings, Dali drivers and lighting control.
- Facade lighting comprising upgrades of the existing Heritage fittings designing the LED tube system to fit with DMX fittings and lighting control, also the installation of new pole and roof mounted spotlights.
- Upgrades to the head end of the lighting control to provide a centrally located PC to communicate with all dali controlled lights and relays, the system incorporated a comprehensive scheduler for time automated dimming & switching and client programmable lighting displays.
The exterior of the House is white, which provides the perfect canvas for projected light as it renders colour well. The new design features a combination of WE-EF Lighting FLC200-CC and VLR100-CC luminaires from WE-EF to light the front façade of the building.
