DESIGN
Shepherd’s inhouse Engineering team were engaged by the Department of Parliamentary Services to conduct an initial feasibility study.
As part of the initial design development, it was determined that Parliament House doesn’t have the current capacity to allow for large scale EV charging across the building.
With this in mind a solution was identified to create the EV charging project as a standalone section of switchboards and incorporate a load management system into the design to allow for no impact to the everyday building and carpark functionality whilst long term power availability options are still determined. The load management system was designed in a staged manner to reduce charging loads prior to completely stopping them whilst also managing it in sections throughout each car park rather than as one whole car park going offline.
BUILD
The project team operated as the Principal Contractor for the project managing not only the electrical installation but the overall WHS responsibilities of the project.
With project partners ACTEWAGL (retailer) and EVSE (Charger supplier) there was close communication with DPS to carry out a staged installation across multiple carparks. The works were sequenced and planned to ensure little disruption to the general public or Members of Parliament and staff within the building.
